Diving Deep: The Practices of Unhurry

Unhurry does not mean being lazy or unproductive. Rather, it allows us to focus on God, the source of all our productivity. There are practical things we can do, that are spiritual in nature, which can help us to stay “deep” in God to experience this; Prayer, Sabbath, Caring, Suffering, Slowing.

Defeating the Temptation to Hurry

“We have to ruthlessly eliminate hurry from our life.” A hyperbolic statement about how hard it is in this world to live unhurried, but how necessary it is. The desert temptation account of Jesus, in one sense, could be seen as the Devil tempting Jesus to “hurry.” It’s a fitting illustration of the power of “hurry’s” tempting force:

1) Grab what you can, now!

2) Take Charge, now!

3) Prove God’s power, now!
Jesus shows us how to defeat these powerful forces that want to hurry our lives, and He does so revealing the power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus Christ, The King of Unhurry

We’ll be starting a series on “The Unhurried Life.” The main themes are the problems and sinfulness wrapped up in our ever-more-hurried living. God’s gracious gift and calling to live “unhurried,” revealed in the example of Jesus, and instructed throughout Scriptures. The benefits of this type of life, which actually means to be productive in more meaningful ways. And, finally, our call to free others from their lives of hurry through Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

– This week, as part of the “celebration”, we look at the very beginning of Jesus’ ministry. With all that He was tasked to do on Earth, he started by showing what it is to be “unhurried.” In fact, He did so by extending a party! But, what He revealed in all this is His Kingdom of “unhurry” that is being brought to this world.

We’ve Got Spirit – Eternity in the Present

As we’re nearing the end of this series on the Holy Spirit, I’m reflecting on the story of Jesus & the woman at the well, and how it is connected to the story of Jacob thousands of years prior, but at the very same well. It’s a call to trust God “in the moment”, because He’s been at work for an eternity before & after!
